THE sunshine of the weekend could become a distant memory with heavy rain expected to move across North Devon this week.

A yellow weather warning has been put in place from 3am on Thursday until 7pm with scattered heavy showers and thundery downpours expected.

A chief forecaster said: “An active frontal zone is expected to move north into southern England during the early hours of Thursday, continuing into parts of Wales and the Midlands during the day. “This brings the threat of some heavy rain for a time with embedded convection within the frontal band.

“To the rear of the front scattered thundery showers are likely to develop bringing some localised downpours during the afternoon. Totals of more than 40 mm are likely in places.

“The areas most at risk of heavy rain remain open to some uncertainty and this warning will be updated.”
