Hartland woman drove with no lights on after four vodka and cokes

The 35-year-old admitted drink driving at North Devon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

A WOMAN who drank four vodka and cokes before driving through Hartland without her headlights on has pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Claire Goaman, 35, of Goaman Park, Hartland, was spotted by police driving through the village without her lights on at around 11.30pm on New Year’s Day.

Officers found her at her boyfriend’s address where she admitted to them she had driven there after drinking.

Tony Dart, defending, said Goaman had driven to the house ‘on a whim’ after receiving a phone call from her mother which ‘upset her’.

He said she had barely driven a mile down the road and realised now she should have walked there.

Mr Dart said Goaman had ‘some issues going on’ and had been in hospital since the incident where she was making improvements.

Magistrates acknowledged a driving ban would cause her ‘some difficulty’ living in such a rural place and disqualified her for 17 months – the minimum they could order.

She was also ordered to pay a £100 fine and a £20 victim surcharge.
