A lovable long term resident with the North Devon dog rescue charity at last goes to the home he deserves.
DOG rescue charity K9 Focus is celebrating rehoming its 500th dog as a loveable gentle giant finally finds his forever home.
After almost a year in kennels and becoming a favourite with staff and volunteers, Hooch now has a new home with K9 volunteer Jo Bowden.
He was saved from a London pound at the 11th hour and was suffering from ingrown eyelashes as well as a ruptured groin.
Despite having no reason to trust after years of apparent abuse and neglect, the lively eight-year-old was good-natured, greeting anyone with a wagging tail and plenty of licks.
“Sadly despite campaigns and posters, no one seemed to want our handsome lad and he stayed in kennels for nearly a year before Jo decided to take the plunge and introduce him to her two mastiffs. It was instant love,” said K9 Focus founder Lynne Hall.
“Everyone in the rescue is just over the moon that after all he has been through he now has the perfect home and to be our 500th dog is simply a fairy tale ending.
“That’s amazing and as we enter a fifth year, everyone at K9 wants to say a massive thank you to all our supporters.”
Hooch’s rescue had plenty of drama – K9 Focus was called late one night by a London pound worker in tears because her favourite dog was to be put to sleep the next day.
With perhaps 12 hours left, a chain of volunteers managed to get Hooch to Bridport where Lynne picked him up.
Now he is happily settled with Jo and her other K9 rescue dog Bella in Bideford, enjoying an idle life of cuddles, belly rubs and playing ball.
“I fell for Hooch the first time that I saw him. He was in such a bad way, but I was nursing Bella back to health and thought I couldn’t give him the attention he needed,” said Jo.
“A year later, I could not believe he was still looking for a home, so I called Lynne. Hooch is a very special boy, although he had such a hard start to his life, I will make sure he enjoys every minute of the rest of it.”
