The youngster proved to be a lucky mascot as the team stole an 8-1 victory on Saturday.
BRAUNTON youngster George Palmer proved to be a lucky mascot for Barnstaple Town as he took his first steps onto the pitch on Saturday.
The five-year-old, who underwent selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) surgery last year, supported the team to an 8-1 win at home against Corsham.
The surgery has enabled him to take his first steps with a walker and his mum Nicki says he is hoping to be able to walk to school for the first time in September.
“He was so, so excited about being a mascot,” said Nicki.
“He kept trying to walk out onto the pitch before the players were ready and he was just laughing the whole time.”
Nicki said the family have received the good news that George should be able to walk using crutches in a few years’ time.
“It’s been tough since George had his surgery but it’s been worthy every single second – we’re just so proud of him,” added Nicki.
