Johns of Instow is starting work today (Monday) to expand into new café next door to deli.

A North Devon deli is celebrating after receiving grant funding to open a brand new café in Instow.

Johns of Instow is planning to extend its deli into the building next door to open the sit-in facility.

Owners Sue and Anthony Johns said they wanted to thank customers for their support in gaining the Leader 5 funding, after asking them in January to write letters in support of their application.

Sue said: “We are delighted to let you know that we have been awarded the grant.

“We couldn’t have got this without your support and that from our loyal teams.”

Work begins on the former Waterside Gallery today (Monday).

The aim is for the café to be open at the end of April to the beginning of May.

Anthony, who is the fourth generation to run the business which has been in his family since the 1940s, told the Gazette in January it was an ‘ambitious’ project which would need a refit of the entire store.

He said: “There will be additional space for local and regional products plus marketing it in a fantastic new environment.”
