PLANS for a brand new school building set to cater for 700 pupils have been lodged with Torridge District Council.

Route 39, North Devon’s first free school which opened in September last year, has submitted the plans for land at Steart Farm Touring Park at Bucks Cross.

The land lies adjacent to the A39 and the school site will comprise of a main hall, sports hall and ‘learning villages’ catering for 125 pupils each.

Since opening in September, the school has been temporarily using refurbished classrooms at the former Clovelly Primary School.

If passed, the school will be built on what is currently a Steart Farm Touring Park, and will cover a 5,950 sq m area with parking and landscaping.

A decision on the application is due in May.

  • With the amount of housing developement underway and being proposed in bideford there will surely be an additional school required due to bideford college as i understand only being able to hold 2000 students max , at present the college has approximately 1600 students. Where ever a new school went there would be complains, from the planned drawings the school will not be seen from the opposite side of the road, traffic will be far far less in the easter summer holidays as at present is a caravan park with many vehicles and caravans arriving all times of the day during peak holiday times, over the years I've never been held up by traffic going into Steart farm so surely this will never happen at all if a school is built?
