Follow the Green Man to Pilton
09:38 15 July 2014
The annual Green Man Day Festival and a favourite on the local calendar returns this Saturday (July 19).
THE people of Pilton will be taking to the streets this Saturday as the Pilton Green Man Festival returns with parades, pageants and live music.
The main street of the small Barnstaple community will be bustling with stalls, food and drink, wandering performers and three live music stages throughout the day.
It all begins with a parade from the Square in Barnstaple at 10.45am, led by the legendary Green Man himself and joined by a riot of colourful characters and musicians as they make their way to Pilton.
In the grounds of Pilton House at 12noon and again at 3pm the centrepiece of the event – the famous Pageant – is played out to choreographed dance and music as it tells the story of how the pagan Green Man met the Prior of Pilton.
Pirates have been popping up around the village, and there is till time to make your own, plus there is a display of pirate cards by children and adult residents in the Church Hall over the weekend.
In nearby Rotary Gardens there will be children’s activities, stalls and crafts plus Punch and Judy, knee-high puppets and story-tellers Entertainingly Different will be performing family friendly Pirate Shows.
The voluntary organising committee has urged people not to bring glass bottles and to ensure they put their litter in the bin or take it home.
