Three crews called out to help dampen down the bales found smouldering in a barn this morning (Weds).

Fire fighters were scrambled to Aldercott Farm in Pancrasweek near Holsworthy this morning (Weds) after reports of 400 bales of hay ‘smouldering’.

Crews from Holsworthy, Bude and Barnstaple arrived just after 9.15am to find the smouldering bales in a barn and helped the farmer remove them to a field.

They then used hose reel jets, a covering jet and breathing apparatus to dampen down the bales in the field.

Around 60 per cent of the contents of the building were damaged by the fire, and 20 per cent damaged by smoke.

The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental.
