The brand new pump will be relocated to the Appledore Shipyard on weekdays to allow retained fire fighters to respond more quickly.

RETAINED fire fighters in Appledore can now respond even more quickly to incidents after relocating the village’s fire engine.

Instead of travelling to the fire station, fire fighters who work at Babcock Marine can now hop straight into the fire engine from their workplace.

The brand new light rescue pump will be located at Appledore Shipyard on weekdays.

Graham Rooke, station manager, said: “We are extremely grateful to Babcock International for the support they have given to the fire service in Appledore over the years by allowing their staff to respond as on-call firefighters.

“This is another example of how they are helping the local fire service and the community by enabling us to have a fire engine located on their premises for immediate response.”

The new engine has been designed with greater manoeuvrability and can be used to access difficult to reach areas.

Andrew Hamilton, shipbuild director at Babcock, said: “Babcock is pleased to be able to support the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.”

The appliance will be relocated to the shipyard Monday to Friday, 7am-4pm, and available from the fire station at other times.
