Local coach company steps up to operate the Dotto train in the town from Easter.

THE Ilfracombe land train will take to the town’s roads this Easter after local coach company Filers Travel stepped forward to operate it.

Visitors and residents will be able to hop on board the Italian made Dotto train and take a seated tour of the town over the Easter holidays.

It will follow a route taking in key locations, including the High Street, Wilder Road, Landmark Theatre, the harbour and Hillsborough.

“We have been offering our coach services for the last 40 years and are more than excited about taking on this new challenge,” said Filers managing director Roy Filer.

“Being based in Ilfracombe, we are passionate about the town and hope the whole community will embrace this attraction, giving a further boost to our community.”

The train has two carriages, seating up to 40 adults and is equipped with rain covers, allowing it to operate in all conditions.

It was purchased following a £163,000 grant from the EU Leader 4 Torridge and North Devon Programme, to support tourist development in Ilfracombe. A further £9,000 was given by North Devon Council from money set aside for economic development.

“I am delighted we have been able to award the land train contract to Filers,” added Councillor Mike Edmunds, Executive Member for Development at Ilfracombe.

“With a proven track record in transportation, this certainly will be different for them, but one I hope helps attract more people into Ilfracombe and spend longer in the town, helping to further boost our local economy.”

Land train stops are now being installed around the town, ready for the Easter.
