North Devon Hospice has opened a ‘pop-up’ Christmas Emporium in the newly revamped Green Lanes shopping centre.

Barnstaple shoppers will be treated to an extra dose of festive spirit this year, thanks to the presence of North Devon Hospice’s Christmas Emporium in the newly revamped Green Lanes shopping centre.

The pop-up shop is selling a wide range of Christmas gifts, as well as offering festive treats such as hot chocolate, popcorn and turkey and stuffing sandwiches.

All proceeds will go to the hospice, helping them to care for local patients and families this Christmas time.

The charity’s head of retail, Amanda Shearing, said: “We’re really excited to have this space in the fantastic new entrance way of Green Lanes for the festive period.

“It’s your one-stop Christmas shop because we’ve got a great range of present ideas and stocking fillers for all the family.

“Plus, you can also grab a delicious festive treat while you’re here to give a much-needed boost while out Christmas shopping.

“We are so grateful to Green Lanes for donating this space to us. It will help raise much-needed funds for the charity.”

One of the products which Amanda expects to be in high demand is North Devon Monopoly, a local version of the world’s most loved-board game.

“North Devon Hospice has been working with Hasbro, the makers of Monopoly, to create this very special North Devon edition and we’re delighted to have it for sale in our Christmas Emporium,” she said.

“It’s the perfect family gift but there are only limited numbers available, so please come soon before we sell out.

“This is one of many fabulous present ideas we’ve got in store, so we look forward to welcoming the North Devon public to discover our Christmas Emporium for themselves.”

The shop space has been donated by Green Lanes shopping centre, thanks to owners Rockspring, to help the hospice raise funds at this crucial time of year.

Craig Bulley, the centre manager, said it was a pleasure to be helping such a worthwhile local cause.

“North Devon Hospice is a cause close to all our hearts, because we all know someone who has needed their support,” he said.

“It was a shock when we read in the press last month that the hospice is struggling to raise the required funds, and that was a reminder that we all need to do our bit to support the care they provide.

“We were more than happy to offer the hospice this space during the Christmas period, and the shop looks amazing too.

“It is a real addition to Green Lanes and shoppers should definitely come and check it out.

“I hope lots of money is raised, because North Devon Hospice is a light in the dark for so many local families, and we’re happy to help raise funds to keep that light shining.”

The Christmas Emporium is open now throughout December, Monday to Sunday.
