Parishes come together to fund preschool play equipment in town

PARISHES in the Lynton area have teamed up to provide new play equipment for local children.

Lynton & Lynmouth, Brendon & Countisbury, Parracombe and Martinhoe came together to fund a project to transform an old play area into an exciting new facility designed specifically for local preschool children.

The area, owned by Lynton and Lynmouth Town Council, now includes a small ship, two baby swings and two child swings, a car springer and a merry-go-round. Safety surfacing completes the project.

The Lynton Toddler Committee has raised £11,000 towards the project and the combined parishes have secured a further £3,776 in Town and Parish (TAP) funding from North Devon Council. A further £1,000 was given to the project by North Devon Homes.

Lynton and Lynmouth Town Clerk Kevin Harris said: “This is a fabulous facility for the pre school and primary age groups from Lynton and adjoining parishes to enjoy safe-play while getting fresh air and exercise.”

Local ward member, Councillor Julian Gurney, said: “What a fabulous fund raising effort by the Lynton Toddler Committee, they really have excelled and I am so pleased that we can help out with some TAP funding from North Devon Council.

“I’m sure the new facilities will be appreciated and well used by many children in the years to come.”
