The 21-year-old pleaded guilty to drunkenly causing criminal damage after jealous row with his girlfriend.

A DRUNKEN man caused more than £1,000 worth of damage after he went on a jealous rampage smashing windows in Ilfracombe High Street.

David Taylor, 21, of Queens Avenue, Ilfracombe, pleaded guilty to breaking the windows of The Pantry, Turner and Carr Estate Agents and The Wellington Inn on November 23.

The court heard Taylor had been drinking for most of the day and ended up having a row with his girlfriend over an ex-partner.

He arranged to meet her later but became jealous when he saw her talking to another man, and ‘a red mist descended’ said Nigel Treasaden, defending.

Police officers discovered Taylor with a bleeding hand and knuckles, and in interview he admitted to causing the criminal damage.

Mr Treasaden said Taylor was ‘very ashamed’ of his actions and had offered to pay compensation.

After hearing advice from the probation service, magistrates ordered Taylor to carry out 70 hours of unpaid work and to pay £1035.96 in compensation.
