The collision involved a tractor and pick-up truck.

A pick-up truck was destroyed in a serious crash involving a tractor on the North Devon Link Road last night (Friday).

Police were called to the A361 at Knowstone at around 4.45pm where they found there had been a collision between a tractor and trailer and a Ford Ranger 4x4.

The driver of the Ford, a man in his 30s from Tiverton, sustained serious back and chest injuries and had to be cut from his vehicle by fire fighters.

A spokesman for South Molton Fire Station said firefighters from Barnstaple and South Molton and the heavy rescue vehicle from Exeter attended the scene.

The man was taken to North Devon District Hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Emergency services, including air ambulance personnel, rushed to the scene and a both-ways road closure was enforced.

Paramedics from the Devon air and the Dorset and Somerset air ambulances attended to give critical care throughout the incident.

The road was closed for four hours and police are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision.
