POLICE dealing with a collision on Torridge Bridge this afternoon (Fri) were also tasked to keep an eye out for a woman threatening to jump off a bridge in the area.

Officers were called to the single vehicle collision involving a Nissan Almera registered to Bournemouth at 3.20pm.

The incident caused traffic tailbacks on the A39 as an ambulance was called to treat one person with neck injuries.

In a separate incident at 3.20pm, police were searching for a woman whose welfare they were concerned for.

The 42-year-old from the Bideford area had threatened to jump off a bridge so officers set out to search for her.

Officers at the scene of the collision checked the area, while others were scrambled to check bridges in Barnstaple.

The woman was located safe and well in Bideford at 4.15pm and an ambulance was called to assist.
