TORRIDGE District Council is asking for public opinion on plans to place a ‘dogs on a lead by direction’ control order on Northam Burrows.

The proposal would apply all year and would mean dog owners who refused to keep a dog on a lead when directed to by a council officer would be committing an offence.

Owners would be directed to place their dog on a lead when officers believed the dog or its owner are causing, or appear likely to cause, a problem.

Roger Johnson, deputy leader of the council, said: “We really do want the public’s views on this so I would urge people to take this opportunity to have their say.”

Information about the proposals is available on the Council’s website at

www.torridge.gov.uk/dogcontrolorders or can be viewed at the council’s offices in Bideford, Torrington and Holsworthy.

The consultation will end on February 15 and comments will be reported to the council before a decision is made on implementing the order.
