The founder of the David Rundle Trust has written a book on her experiences carrying out charity work in Africa.

AN INSPIRATIONAL woman who has worked tirelessly with poor communities in Rwanda for 12 years has published a book on her experiences.

Deri Rundle, from Westward Ho!, set up the David Rundle Trust in memory of her late husband in 2001 helping poor communities in Rwanda.

She set up the charity after visiting for the first time in 2000 and has since been back every year working on providing family planning, clean water and education.

Her new book Never Again will tell of the harrowing and touching moments she has experienced, with several laughs along the way.

She said: “I always kept a sort of diary during my time in Rwanda and a few years ago I thought I ought to put this into a book.

“I’ve started the book with a brief outline of Rwanda’s history and the genocide so people understand the context of the stories in it.

“The first time I went out to Rwanda I was so shocked, I came back saying ‘I don’t know if I can go out there again’.

“But after a while you become kind of accustomed to it, and it’s about what you can do for the people out there.”

All of the proceeds from her book will go to the Trust.

She said: “David and I used to always support charities working with children and animals; we never went out to Rwanda together but I think he would have loved it.”

Deri will be launching her new book on Wednesday, October 17 at St John’s Garden Centre in Barnstaple from 3.30pm – 6pm.

Anyone who can’t make it to the launch and would like to purchase a copy of the book can do so on Amazon or by contacting Deri on deri@davidrundletrust.co.uk.
