Mr Clegg wwas due to pay a visit to the showground at Umberleigh Barton today (Wednesday) but cancelled at the eleventh hour.

DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg has pulled out of a visit to the North Devon Show this morning (Wednesday).

The Gazette revealed earlier today the Liberal Democrat leader was due be visiting the North Devon Show in Umberleigh to support North Devon MP Nick Harvey.

A Liberal Democrat spokesman said: “The Deputy Prime Minister’s diary changes on a regular basis.

“Unfortunately due to a last minute change to his schedule it was not possible for him to travel to the North Devon Show.

“He is disappointed that he was unable to go and hopes to attend at some point in the future.”

A number of other politicians will be attending the show, including farming minister George Eustice; Dr Julia Reid, MEP for the South West and Gibraltar; and Ray Finch, MEP for the South East of England.

Gates to the event, held at Umberleigh Barton, open at 8am.

  • "Another appointment had come up" is a good excuse when you never intended to come anyway. Sir Nick doesn't need Clegg's support anyway, he is hundreds of times more respected in North Devon...
