Pair of female cheetahs set up residence at Exmoor Zoo to keep lonely Dave company.

A LONELY cheetah is in for a spot of double trouble at Exmoor Zoo as he welcomes two new lady friends to his enclosure this week.

‘Dave’ the cheetah had been on his own since Christmas last year and although happy with his own company, now has two new playmates.

Danny Reynolds, curator at Exmoor Zoo, said he hoped the cheetahs would breed but Dave did not seem too enamoured with his new companions as yet.

He explained: “The problem is that cheetahs do not actually breed easily in captivity.

“In the wild, the females effectively roam areas that they loosely call their own and inadvertently bump into males when the prey animals they follow walk into the male’s territories.

“This means, in captivity, you have to keep the boys and girls separate and only introduce them when you want to try and breed.”

Dave’s two new companions have come from the Czech Republic and have formed a mutual partnership.

After a ferry trip across the English Channel, the cheetahs are settling down to explore their new home and enthral visitors to their enclosure.
