Brand new cycling event will see hundreds take to the saddle for two charities.
A BRAND new event will see cyclists hitting the roads of North Devon on Sunday raising money for two charities.
The Smuggler Sportive, organised in conjunction with The Bike Shed, will see cyclists take on a 25 mile, 50 mile or 80 mile route.
All of the routes start and finish at Barnstaple Square, which will be alive with family fun including food, coffees and a bar.
More than 300 riders are taking part, and all will receive a free breakfast and enjoy ‘feeding stations’ along the way to keep them fuelled.
All money raised from the event will be split between the North Devon Hospice and Force Cancer Charity.
Marcus Chapman, event organiser, said: “All routes start and finish on The Square in Barnstaple and will head out in different directions to take on what I believe are some of the finest cycling roads in the country.
“We have worked hard to find routes that incorporate jaw-dropping views, alpine-style climbs and nice quiet roads that are ideal for riding together.”
The event has so far sold around 320 places and entries will be available on the day at ‘Smuggler HQ’ on The Square.
Emma Lowe, from North Devon Hospice’s fundraising team, added: “To take on a ride like this with hundreds of others will be a very special experience so I’d encourage cyclists of all abilities to give it a go.
“The money raised will help North Devon Hospice provide our essential care and support right here in your local community.”
Registration opens at 7.30am on Sunday, with the sportive starting from 8am until 11am. For more information visit www.thesmugglersportive.co.uk.
