Fire fighters tackle a chemical leak at Bideford factory
FIRE fighters from Bideford, Torrington and Barnstaple were called to the Tyco factory in East-the-Water, Bideford on Friday afternoon to investigate reports of a chemical leak on the premises.
It was confirmed that a storage tank of potassium cyanide, used to strip metal, was leaking into an overflow tank. Around 200 litres of the chemical were involved.
Tyco staff quickly located and dealt with the leak with the assistance of the fire crews. Breathing apparatus and gas-tight suits were used.
The spillage was contained within the factory and at no time was there any danger to members of the public.
