New lease of life for Yarde Orchard near Torrington.

A HUSBAND and wife team have put sustainability into action after taking over a café and campsite on the Tarka Trail.

Simeon and Kelly Day have taken on the café, yurts, eco-friendly bunkhouse and campsite at Yarde Orchard in Torrington following the previous owner’s retirement in September.

The couple have been involved in the running of the site for more than a decade and for three years Simeon has been running sustainability courses there.

The café has been completely refurbished with reclaimed materials, and every aspect of the site from the solar heating to the waste system is sustainable.

“We had been looking for a project like this to take on, so when this opportunity came up we grabbed it with both hands,” said Simeon.

“We want to show that everyone can have a little bit of sustainability in their lives; by demonstrating real sustainable living in a conventional way we hope to encourage others to start making changes too.”
