Kingsland Barton site will provide enough energy for every home in South Molton
North Devon councillors voted to approve a solar array in South Molton at Wednesday’s meeting.
North Devon Council planning committee gave the go-ahead for more than 23,000 panels to be installed at Kingsland Barton, on Nadder Lane, which will provide enough energy to power every home in South Molton.
The panels will be around 3.3m tall, which planning agent Ben Lewis claimed would allow ‘sufficient room for the field to be grazed by the existing sheep herd.’ The application also includes four inverter housings.
The committee overruled South Molton Town Council’s decision to refuse the application on the grounds of the visual impact it would have on the area.
And despite similar concerns from some members of North Devon Council’s committee, the plans were approved by 10 votes to five.
