Bideford Town Council also voted to scatter poppy seeds on the verges into the town to mark 100th anniversary of First World War.

BIDEFORD Town Council will be funding a special raised flower bed at the entrance of Victoria Park to mark the 100th anniversary of World War One.

The bed, which will also commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Second World War, was suggested by Cllr Tony Inch at the full council meeting on Thursday.

Cllr Inch proposed: “That this council take on the raised flower bed in the park for a fitting tribute and the memorial to all the young men and women that gave their lives in the First World War.”

Cllr Inch also suggested the town council should scatter poppy seeds on the verges entering the town.

All councillors voted for the proposal, with the exception of one, and suggested the Jigsaw project be contacted to help with the planting of the bed.
