Five different clubs have joined together for the first time to help out local charity Northam Lodge.

FIVE different clubs in Bideford have grouped together for the first time to buy a £14,000 minibus for Northam Lodge.

The bus will enable residents to get to vital appointments and emergency hospital trips and is fully fitted for wheelchair users.

The charity was in need of a new vehicle to replace its old bus which was becoming expensive to run.

Bideford Round Table, Bridge Rotary Club, Bideford Rotary Club, Bideford Lions and Inner Wheel all clubbed together to purchase the second hand vehicle.

Charlie Dixon, chief executive at Northam Lodge, said the charity was delighted with the new minibus.

He said: “There is a growing demand on our services and this support from local groups means that we can expand our activities.

“Local authority spending cuts are causing more and more people to lose access to vital services and the need for local charities like Northam Lodge is now more important than ever.

“We would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has helped contribute to this new bus.”

The charity will also use the bus for providing community based activities for people with learning disabilities living in North Devon and Torridge.
