A Barnstaple photographer has been getting up close and personal with creepy crawlies.

Retired electrical project design engineer, Tony Spry, 69, has been sharing his insect close-ups on our iwitness24 website.

Tony said he has always loved macro photography and has collected thousands of bug photos over the years.

He said: “I think the fascination with close up photography lies in the detail that can be seen on the subject that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

“It’s easy to look at an insect and say ‘Ugh, its gross and ugly’, but under magnification these things can be absolutely stunning and resemble anything the science fiction fraternity can dream up.

“I don’t like spiders however, they give me the creeps but I can deal with them as long as I know where they are and I can be certain they won’t drop down my neck.”

Tony said focusing on the eyes is ‘essential’ to the perfect shot.
