Croyde festival headliner announces cancellation ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’, but Newton Faulkner will take their place.
GoldCoast Oceanfest headliner Clean Bandit has pulled out of this year’s festival at Croyde, it was announced on Friday.
Oceanfest organisers received a statement from the management of the young electronic pop band saying with regret the performance had to be cancelled ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’.
The band recently enjoyed a UK number one with their hit Rather Be and had been due to headline the Saturday night of the June 20-22 surf, music and lifestyle festival.
In a statement to festival goers, GoldCoast organisers said “To say that we are shocked is an understatement.
“We appreciate that the cancellation is going to disappoint many of you. Festival bills are subject to change. Your ticket is for the entire production and remains valid.”
But they announced two time festival performer, English singer songwriter Newton Faulkner, has agreed to step in at late notice to take the Saturday slot.
He appeared as a special guest in 2009 and as Friday headliner in 2012.
“These things happen,” said Warren Latham, GoldCoast Oceanfest director.
“We move forward hugely positive in our choice of Newton Faulkner, and remain massively upbeat on the amazing quality and depth of the entire music bill. We now focus on delivering another top class production in 2014 and look forward to the continued support of all GoldCoast fans who have grown with us over the past 16 years.”
