New centre has been spearheaded by six local churches and will help families in need across Barnstaple, Bideford and Braunton.

SIX churches across North Devon have spearheaded a new Christians Against Poverty centre which has opened in Barnstaple.

The churches joined forces to open the North Devon CAP Centre at the Trinity Church office in Barnstaple, which will cover Barnstaple, Braunton and Bideford.

The centre has been opened by Trinity Barnstaple, South Street Braunton, The Freedom Centre, St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Bideford Baptist Church, and St Mary’s Bideford with support from Grosvenor Church and the Diocese of Exeter.

Simon May, vicar of Holy Trinity Church in Barnstaple, said: “The Centre will offer CAP’s unique debt counselling service to some of the poorest families in our community.

“We have been really touched by the readiness of so many Christians to get involved in the project.”

Jeremy Bishopp has been appointed as the centre manager and has been busy recruiting volunteers ahead of the formal launch yesterday by Cllr Brian Greenslade.

To get involved in the North Devon CAP centre as a volunteer or to support the centre financially contact Jeremy Bishop on jeremybishopp@capuk.org or the Trinity Church office on 01271 374240 or by emailing office@trinitybarnstaple.eclipse.co.uk.

People needing help should contact the CAP office in Bradford on 0800 328 0006.
