Charitable deluge at Barnstaple Rotary Shop

Shop ready to help flooded householders back on to their feet with the essentials while waiting for insurance companies to pay out.

PEOPLE stuck in ‘flooding limbo’ as they wait for insurance claims can begin to rebuild their lives with a little help from Barnstaple Rotary shop.

The charity shop in Boutport Street is inviting families who have lost household items to the floods to restock and make a difference to local good causes at the same time.

As well as furniture or electrical items there is a plethora of china, crockery and bedding to assist those in North Devon trying to get back on their feet as they wait for insurance claims to be processed.

“If people have lost everything, we can help them replace it and they can at least get on with their lives as best they can without spending a fortune,” said Penny Furseman, volunteer shop manager.

“Maybe £50 would help to re-establish a kitchen so the family can get back to normal day-to-day life.”

Outside the shop is an overflowing trolley donated by Tesco, containing a large amount of free clothes, including children’s clothes, replenished daily for those in real need.

The shop is open from Monday to Saturday 10am-4pm and jointly run by volunteers from both Barnstaple Rotary and Link Rotary clubs.

Donations of good quality items are welcome, with furniture, electrical and household items, crockery, kitchenware, books, clothing and toys all required.

Proceeds go to local good causes such as clubs and community projects.

Donated items can be taken to the shop during opening hours, or call Penny Furseman on 07922 205334. Large or heavy items can be collected by arrangement.
