Lock it or lose it, warn police.
POLICE are reminding people to lock their front doors at night after two burglaries in Barnstaple in the early hours of yesterday morning (Thursday).
Thieves walked into a property in St Georges Terrace and took the keys to black Honda that was eventually discovered abandoned in the Newport area of town.
In another incident, thieves attempted to steal a car from a house in Swimbridge but were unable to manoeuvre the vehicle from its parking space.
Last month the Gazette reported that cash and items such as iPads had been stolen in similar incidents involving unlocked homes.
PC Eamon Rogers said police were investigating the possibility that Thursday’s incidents were related, and appealed for witnesses to come forward, including a dog walker and milkman who were thought to have been in the area at the time.
He said: “We are appealing for two possible witnesses who may have seen the black Honda travelling at speed through Newport Road at around 5am on Thursday.
“A local dog walker and a milkman on his rounds were in the area at that time; police officers are looking to locate those two individuals to see if they can assist with our enquiries in relation to that car.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting crime number CB/14/1375 for the Barnstaple incident, and CB/14/1377 for the Swimbridge incident.
