A CAR was destroyed in a fire in Braunton in the early hours of this morning which fire fighters say was started deliberately.

A crew from the village was called to Pixie Lane at around 12.20am to find the blue Rover MG was burn out.

There was also damaged caused to a nearby Volkswagen, said a police spokesman.

Six vehicles in Homer Road, Beech Grove and Dune View Road were also damaged with what appeared to be stones, he said.

Fire crews used fire extinguishers, two hose reel jets and small tools to put of the flames.

Sergeant Dave Williams said “I would appeal for anybody that has any information or indeed has witnessed what happened to call us via 101, quoting crime reference CR/094291/14.”

The incident is currently being treated as a suspected arson attack.
