Community fund raisers in Ilfracombe come up trumps again for local good cause.

THE Candar Community Centre in Ilfracombe has continued its fantastic fund raising efforts with an impressive Christmas present of £5,000 for the North Devon Chemotherapy Appeal.

Throughout the year events and activities such as bingos, coffee mornings, raffles and sales has enabled the residents and staff at the sheltered housing scheme to raise more than ever.

Resident Peter Norris said the driving force behind the charity activities was Elsie Berrecloth, aged 90, who still organises two bingos at the centre each week.

Last year the fund raisers collected £3,500 for Help for Heroes and their chosen charity for 2013 is the Tyrrell Hospital in Ilfracombe.
