Appledore’s lifeboats have had a busy weekend responsing to distress calls at sea.

THE APPLEDORE RNLI lifeboats have had a busy weekend with three shouts to help at sea.

On Friday afternoon, around 2pm, Appledore’s ‘Mollie Hunt’ lifeboat was launched with a full crew of six to help a fishing vessel in distress.

The ‘Crusader of Kingswear’ put a distress call out to Swansea Coastguard.

The 17.29 metre fishing vessel was towed from its position near Lundy Island back to Appledore by the lifeboat, safely mooring around 8.30pm.

At 3am Sunday morning, the ‘Inis Eoighain’ boarding lifeboat was launched on service to the new Bideford bridge area, but stood down shortly after arriving on scene.

And on Sunday afternoon, around 12.45pm, both lifeboats were called out to rescue two kayakers off of Woolacombe.

But the kayakers arrived safely back on shore as the inshore lifeboat was just five minutes away.

The kayakers were met by the Morte Hoe coastguard team and both lifeboats returned to the station by 1pm.
