A Braunton teenager has created a stunning Christmas lights display to help raise money for the Chemotherapy Appeal.

Josh Liddall, 15, worked tirelessly to set the festive polar scene of at 11 Chestnut Close, dedicated to the memory of two grand parents plus a close family friend who all lost their lives to cancer.

The Braunton Academy student purchased most of the lights and components himself, with a little financial help from family and friends.

It is in memory of his grandfather Roger Liddall and stepdad Chris Faulkner’s father John, as well as family friend Lee Markham, who worked with Chris as a civilian crewman on the search and rescue helicopter at RMB Chivenor.

Josh hopes to raise at least £500 for the appeal and The Co-operative has pledged to match the total.

Some of the ideas for the display came after a visit to see the ‘king of Christmas lights’ Paul Toole at Wells in Somerset.

“I created a smaller one last year and it has just grown,” said Josh, who is studying GCSE art and design.

“It took two or three weeks to plan and put together, I was out there until 11pm some nights – the snow was the hardest part and there are around 5,000 bulbs in all.”

The ‘official switch on’ took place on December 2 and as many people as possible are invited to come and view the display and make a donation for the Chemo Appeal. Directions to the house are signposted off North Down Road.
