A BRAND new bar and restaurant has opened in the heart of Braunton which hopes to offer a different facet to the village’s offerings.

SQ Bar opened on Saturday in the former Natwest bank in Exeter Road after a complete refurbishment which transformed the look of the building and added a roof terrace.

Husband and wife team Olly and Lucy Seymour, who both grew up in the village, will run the venture alongside Lucy’s parents, Cherry and Mike Squire, and grandparents June and Gordon Squire.

“It’s a real family run business and the support Lucy’s parents and grandparents have given us has been absolutely amazing,” said Olly.

“Without their help and wealth of experience this wouldn’t have been possible.”

Despite a small fire in the kitchen on Sunday afternoon putting them slightly behind schedule, SQ successfully launched its food menu yesterday (Tuesday).

“We opened quietly for drinks on Saturday and were overwhelmed by how many people turned out to support us,” added Olly.

“All of the local builders and tradesmen have been brilliant in helping us open up in time for the summer holidays.

“We’re hoping we can deliver a stylish, laid back atmosphere and perhaps bring people to the village who might not have visited before.”

SQ Bar is situated in Exeter Road, Braunton, and will serve food from midday.
