THE Bishop of Crediton visited Lundy on Thursday to join the official celebrations being held to mark the island’s new status as an ecclesiastical parish.

The Right Reverend Nick McKinnel attended a special May Day service at St Helena’s Church.

The island was formerly part of the parish of Hartland Coast Mission Community, but became the UK’s newest Church of England parish in December last year.

The Bishop was joined by Archdeacon of Barnstaple, the Venerable David Gunn-Johnson; and the Reverend Claire Rose-Casemore, priest in charge at St Mary’s Church, Bideford.
