IF you’ve piled on the pounds over Christmas and want to get an amazing body for spring while changing other people’s lives, sign up to the Big Give.

Whether you’ve got several stone to lose or a few pounds, the Big Give is designed to get you into shape for life while raising money for the North Devon Hospice.

Anyone who wants to hear more and is interested in taking part can take part in a fitness test and introduction in Barnstaple on Saturday.

And if you don’t believe us, take itfrom those who took part in this challenge last year with Absolute Training and Nutrition in aid of the Hospice.

In April 2012, the Gazette reported how Barnstaple man David Tyzack’s life had been devastated by a rare and incurable life-threatening disease.

David saw himself pile on the pounds and become unable to leave his house or continue college after contracting Wegener’s granulomatosis in December 2011.

But the 22-year-old defied the odds last year when he took part in a weight loss challenge for the North Devon Hospice and lost 47lbs over four months.

He said: “When I first did the fitness test and was practically hyperventilating after 30 seconds I thought it wasn’t going to work out.

“But when Wayne called me and told me I was in, I knew I had to give 110 per cent.

“I had days when I woke up with the shakes and feeling nauseous but I made myself get up and carry on.

“I was a bit dubious about raising the money but once I set my mind to it I organised a collection and managed to gather most of the total over two days.

“Since doing the challenge my confidence has improved and doing it with the whole group around you, everyone helps pull each other through.”

And it’s not just David – fellow challenger Janice White lost 42lbs over the challenge last year, and has been training with personal trainer Wayne Large ever since.

Wayne, of Absolute Training, said: “Janice was an inspiration – she used to be all about going to the gym but she never got the results she wanted.

“Now she understands how important nutrition is and she has continued to lose weight after the challenge.”

Those interested in signing up to the Big Give are invited to The Studio in Pottington to find out more and undergo a short fitness test.

“This is not about how fit you are, it’s about making sure we pick people for the challenge who really want it and are determined to get stuck in,” said Wayne.

Emma Lowe from the North Devon Hospice will also be on hand to give full fundraising support, as every challenger must raise £600 each for the charity.

At the end of the three month challenge, there will be a glitzy ball for challengers to receive a make over and show off their new bodies to family and friends.

If you’re interested in taking part, call The Studio on 01271 370600, or turn up to The Studio in Upcott Avenue, Pottington, Barnstaple (please wear suitable clothes for the fitness test) on Saturday at 11am.
