The couple have volunteered at charity Wings South West for the last 10 years.
THE High Sheriff has recognised two Bideford volunteers for the work they have carried out with the charity Wings South West.
Tony Short and his wife Christine were two of 13 people presented with awards on Wednesday.
Mr Short, a retired police officer, and Mrs Short, a retired nurse, received the awards at County Hall for their work with the charity over the last decade.
As well as taking on responsibility for all first aid needs, Mrs Short looks after the bar area and kitchen at the Bideford facility.
Mr Short helps out by tidying, mending and doing general maintenance as well as fulfilling a valuable role as the health and safety coordinator.
High Sheriff Robin Barlow said: “These people are a remarkable group of individuals, each of whom in their own quiet way has been doing something very special.
“I am delighted to be able to present an award to them; they are a credit to their community and county.”
