Multitude of events set up for September spectacular

A mammoth duck race will be just one of the highlights at this year’s Bideford Water Festival.

The ever-popular free event will take place on September 1, starting at 1pm at Bideford Quay and on the River Torridge.

Tickets will be on sale soon and there is a first prize of £100 on offer to the sponsor of the first duck past the quat fountain.

The Rotary Club of Bideford is holding the event in support of RNLI Appledore and Clovelly, Children’s Hospice South West, the Chivenor Memorial Garden and other Rotary Charities.

Many other great attractions will also be there, including commercial and charity stalls, the famous extra tall greasy pole competition, a display of North Devon classic cars and the traditional funfair.

The gig boats will be out on the water, with five clubs taking part in three races, and RNLI lifeboats and Chivenor rescue helicopters will be there to demonstrate their skills.
