Exhibition tomorrow will outline plans for up to 600 homes to the rear of Atlantic Village.

MASSIVE expansion plans for the western approaches to Bideford are gathering pace this week.

Proposals for up to 600 new homes on farmland to the rear of Atlantic Village will be unveiled to the public at an exhibition tomorrow (Thursday).

The blueprint for Adjavin Farm, south of Clovelly Road, also features employment land, space for a new primary school, community allotments, public open space and landscaping.

A spokesperson for developer Linden Homes told the Gazette that feedback received would be fed into an outline planning application to be submitted to Torridge District Council in December or early January.

“The exhibition will outline the general principle of the development – what could be proposed and where the access points would be,” said Matthew Evans on behalf of the company.

“The exact number of homes and where they will be is still to be decided.

“Nothing has been submitted to the council yet; we want to hear what people like and what they don’t like.

“There is likely to be a submission in December or early January depending on the technical work to be done. We would be looking at April or May for a decision.”

The proposal is one of a wave of developments set to transform the Clovelly Road area.

Legal agreements have now been signed for Atlantic Park, paving the way for a McDonald’s restaurant, Brewers Fayre pub and Premier Inn hotel opposite Atlantic Village.

Meanwhile, housebuilder Bloor Homes has drawn up indicative plans for up to 910 homes at Winfsord Park as part of the so-called ‘west urban expansion’ of Bideford, which borders Atlantic Park, Clovelly Road and the A39.

A multi-million pound extension of Atlantic Village itself was given the go-ahead in August last year.

All the sites are included in the emerging North Devon and Torridge Local Plan, which once adopted will set out future development up to the year 2031.
