Road closed after house fire in Bickington on the corner of Hopperstyle and Currington Meadow.

Emergency services were called to a house fire in Bickington this morning (Thursday).

Police closed Hopperstyle while fire crews from Barnstaple, Bideford and Braunton tackled the blaze on the corner of Currington Meadow.

No one was in the property at the time of the fire, which was reported just after 9.15am, and no one was injured.

Barnstaple crew manager Adam Pateman confirmed the fire started in a bedroom in the property, but the cause was unknown.

He said: “When we arrived smoke was coming from the roof and we didn’t know if anyone was still in there.

“A neighbour contacted the owners who were on holiday.

“There is fire damage to the bedroom.”

Three breathing apparatus teams intially entered the property, and the fire is now out.

A fire investigation officer has been called to the scene and the cause was accidental.
