Where are the best places to get hot chocolate in North Devon? Now the darker nights are drawing in, here are some suggestions for your sweet tooth...

The temperatures are starting to drop and the darker evenings are coming in – so here at the Gazette we officially declare it hot chocolate season.

But where can you find the best hot chocolates in North Devon? From traditional froth to the weird and the wonderful, here are some of our favourites…

Fremington Quay Café

Walk, run, cycle (or drive) your way down to Fremington Quay, where you can enjoy a deliciously sweet hot chocolate with some stunning views.

Look out over the estuary while you either brave the outdoor seating, or snuggle up next to the log burner inside and learn about the quay’s vibrant shipping history.

The Chocolate Teapot, Bideford

Chocolate is the speciality of this cute little café in Mill Street, in the heart of Bideford.

Watch the busy shoppers rush by as you take a few moments to enjoy your hot chocolate, and why not go all-in with a chocolate fondue as well?

Market Street Kitchen, Appledore

Tucked away in Market Street, this cosy café is a great place to enjoy the fishing village of Appledore with a yummy hot chocolate.

It’s dog-friendly and you can even try adding clotted cream to your hot chocolate for an extra special treat.

Annie and the Flint, Ilfracombe

This on-trend café in Ilfracombe High Street is the place to go for a hot chocolate and some healthy treats to go with them.

They often feature new drinks as well, such as turmeric lattes, and if you’re taking your drink away, their packaging is all biodegradable too.

Don’t be put off by the walk up the steep Bideford High Street – it’s worth it to spend some time in this eclectic café.
