A TINY pup is putting up a ‘miraculous’ fight for survival after being born with all the odds stacked against him.

King Charles spaniel cross Bubbles is being cared for by Diana Lewis of North Devon Animal Ambulance after his three siblings were stillborn and his mother died shortly after his birth.

The distraught and heavily pregnant owner rushed the barely living pup to Diana at the charity’s special care unit while enroute to Barnstaple hospital to give birth herself.

“They were in tears as they left for the hospital with my promises to do everything possible for the tiny creature,” said Diana.

The outlook was bleak – whenever she tried to feed the pup, milk would bubble out if his nose – hence his name – plus he was battling a heart murmur and breathing problems.

But she persisted and the battling pup appears to have turned a corner.

“He now goes everywhere with me,” she said.

“Each day when going out on calls I felt like a new mum, loading all the water bottles, towels, feeds and flasks into the ambulance.”

In between rounds, feeds and sleeps, Bubbles totters around the Lewis living room, much to the bemusement of the family cats.

“His strength is short lived and he soon needs his warm bed,” said Diana.

“But his squeaks, that he likes to think are doggy woofs, are getting louder and my hopes are lifting each day.

“I have a strong feeling that if all ends happily and he goes home to his owner, we’ll be shedding a few tears.”
