Trial campaign to boost footfall in town begins this Sunday.
HALF price Sunday parking is being introduced in some Barnstaple car parks from this Sunday.
As revealed in the Gazette in September last year, charges in town centre short stay car parks are being reduced from £1 to 50 pence an hour.
The move is part of a trial campaign by North Devon Council to help boost Sunday shopping in Barnstaple.
The half price offer will run from Sunday, January 12 to Sunday, April 13.
Councillor Malcolm Prowse, Executive Member for Economic Regeneration, said Barnstaple was ‘very much open for business on a Sunday’.
“However, we’re not sure people realise most of the shops in town are open and they might hop on the train to Exeter or drive down to Plymouth to shop instead.
“This campaign will promote Barnstaple as a Sunday shopping, food and leisure destination and the half-price parking offers an extra incentive for people to shop local on a Sunday, rather than travel elsewhere.”
As well as local advertising, the Barnstaple Sunday campaign will feature on posters in local car parks, shop windows and Stagecoach buses district-wide.
Sunday events are also being planned to complement the campaign.
