Town saw 76 burglaries in the last year
Barnstaple saw 76 burglaries in the 12 months to December 8, Devon & Cornwall Police figures show.
Although that represents a drop of 1.3% on last year, the police are urging people to remain vigilant throughout the festive period.
Burglars let themselves in through unlocked doors or windows in 35% of all burglaries, so the simple measure of keeping them locked can significantly help to combat theft.
Detective Inspector Praveen Naidoo said “While North and West Devon remains one of the safest places to live, this is a time of year where opportunity tends to present itself more readily to the criminally inclined. It’s important that property is kept secure and out of sight from those few individuals who would seek to take some of the enjoyment out of the festive season.”
Following a recent burglary in the Newport area, Barnstaple’s Local Police team have been going door-to-door speaking to residents and offering residents a chance to have their say.
