A BARNSTAPLE woman is getting ready to run the London marathon in memory of her best friend’s sister.

Having tried to gain a place since 2006, Sally Beaumont will finally get to take on the challenge after being given a golden bond by her chosen charity the Cystic Fibrosis Trust – just 11 weeks before the big day!

Sally, 35, has a personal connection to the charity, after her friend’s sister Louise died of the illness eight years ago. She was just 34.

“It gives me the motivation to keep running,” she said. “I can’t let Louise down more than anything.

“When I got the phone call to say I’d got a place I just started crying.

“It wasn’t until a couple of days later that I realised it was only 11 weeks away!

“It didn’t take a lot of thought to say yes though, In some respects I think it’s quite good I had such short notice as you just have to get on with it.”

So far, Sally, an administrator at the Army Reserve in Barnstaple, has raised about £600 of her £2,014 target, but is hoping to see that figure boosted after the big day through fundraising table top sales and a themed night out.

“I’m chuffed that I got in and I’ll be so happy once I’ve finished it – it will be nice to get back to normality.”
