Proposals approved for historic Pilton industrial site.
PLANS to convert a former Barnstaple glove factory into flats have been given the go-ahead.
Derelict buildings at the historic brown-field site in Pilton have been gradually deteriorating since the factory’s closure in the 1970s.
They can now be transformed into 11 new homes, together with car parking spaces, after proposals were approved by North Devon Council.
The industrial site at Ladywell is situated within a conservation area in the medieval core of Pilton.
But developers say that while some smaller buildings will be demolished, the main buildings will be retained to preserve their character.
A statement submitted on behalf of the applicant said: “The conversion of these buildings will prevent further deterioration of these important historic structures on a brown-field site, which has been under-utilised for many decades.”
