North Devon’s WOW Scrap Store is about to celebrate its first birthday – and is desperate for new volunteers.

The Action for Children project is aimed at creating a sustainable future for reusable waste.

Local businesses donate waste – from paper and fabric to office equipment – and the store finds innovative ways to reuse it.

Nicole Hickin, project coordinator, said: “By collecting from local businesses we are aiming to reduce the amount of commercial waste going to landfill and provide local people with a range of materials to reuse, recycle and re-imagine.

“We have a workshop on site, which we use to run creative workshops and it is also available to rent out for small groups.”

WOW has recently started creating arts and crafts packs for children and is launching an online shop to sell them.

Volunteers are needed to help pack the kits up.

The charity is based in Victoria House in Victoria Road, Barnstaple, and is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am – 3pm, with free parking.

For more information on membership or to volunteer, email or call 07932 780436.
