The Bull and Bear is celebrating the author’s centenary with a selection of limited-edition cocktails inspired by his tales.

Childhood dreams are coming true at a Barnstaple pub, where marvellous Roald Dahl-inspired creations are being conjured up in cocktail shakers.

Tuesday marks what would have been the author’s 100th birthday, and to celebrate the Bull and Bear is selling some not-so-revolting recipes in his honour.

Owner Matt Spencer will be selling four different cocktails based on Dahl’s stories from Monday next week.

Perhaps you’ll try George’s Marvellous Medicine - a curiously tropical flavoured tipple garnished with cherries.

Or maybe you’ll make like the food-stealing Fantastic Mr Fox and enjoy a glass of cider punch with Schnapps and whisky.

The BFG’s Frobscottle is a curious concoction of rum, malibu and blue Curacao topped with squirty cream and popping candy - just beware it doesn’t give you whizzpoppers.

And finally the showpiece, Wonka’s Choco’mallo Martini, made with chocolate milk, marshmallow licquer, and plenty of sprinkles.

Matt said: “All of us grew up reading Roald Dahl books or watching the films There’s nobody who doesn’t know one of his stories.

“All of his books have some form of food references in it, whether it’s Mr Fox stealing all the food or the bird pie in The Twits.

“We thought we’d give some of the favourites an adults twist and that’s where the idea of the cocktails came about.”

Test the cocktails out for yourself at The Bull and Bear in Mermaid Walk, Barnstaple.
