Fire fighters spent more than seven hours battling the blaze after finding barn ‘virtually burnt out’.

FIRE fighters spent much of Sunday battling a blaze at a barn in Buckland Brewer involving a number of hay bales.

Crews from Bideford, Torrington, Appledore and Barnstaple were scrambled to the scene at 8.30am to find the single storey barn virtually burnt out.

They used a hose reel jet and two compressed air foam jets to combat the flames while removing galvanised sheeting from the area.

By 10.40am hay bales were being removed from the area by a digger and spread into an open field using machinery.

Fire fighters reported steady progress was being made and by 3.30pm they were using a hose reel jet to dampen down the area.
